Num's Chocolate Chip and Cherry cookies

Num is as many of you know, the Baker in the family. Don’t get me wrong I am a baker too, but I am a little slapdash in my baking, where Num is careful and measures everything. He is also very inventive with his cookies, and is always experimenting with flavors. This is a new cookie for him, and it fulfills my love of chocolate and cherries very nicely. I will try to get his recipe for the oatmeal, pineapple, lime, coconut cookies he made yesterday. Sublime!
Chocolate Chip and Cherry Cookies 2 1/2 cups Flour - we prefer King Arthur 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder 8oz Butter - 2 sticks 1/2 cup granulated sugar - we prefer the organic 1 cup light brown sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla essence 2 large eggs 2 cups chocolate chips - we prefer ghirardella 1 cup dried cherries Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the butter with both sugars; beat until light and fluffy. Add the salt, vanilla, and eggs. Beat until well mixed. Add flour mixture; mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and cherries Scoop tablespoon-size balls of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper, gently push the down slightly. Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, but still soft in the center, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool.
